What to Expect
The test itself will take about 10 minutes, but allow 40 minutes for your appointment. You will be asked to lie flat on a special table. The bone density machine's mechanical arm will scan your hip and spine (unless otherwise requested by your physician). Your radiation exposure is extremely small, approximately 1/10th of that found in a chest x-ray.

Special Considerations
Do not take a daily calcium supplement until after the scan. If possible, please avoid wearing metal on your torso (e.g., snaps, underwire, and zippers). The test is not recommended for women who are pregnant, or think they may be.

Peripheral Bone Density Tests
FORE also offers peripheral bone density tests (pDXA) at local health fairs and corporate worksites. If you represent a health fair or company interested in offering screening for your employees, call us to learn more.

What to Expect
This test does not require a physician's prescription. FORE has several different machines across the Bay area so you may test at your convenience. The test takes just a few minutes, and the radiation exposure is equal to 1/50th of a chest x-ray.
